The Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK and Commonwealth’s 2018 conference will be jointly hosted by the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) of the University of Oxford, including the Pitt Rivers Museum, and the Department of Social Sciences, Oxford Brookes University. It will take place in Oxford, based in and around the Examination Schools, the High Street, Oxford, on 18–21 September 2018. 

Of special Interest: Panel Pol08, "The humanitarian imagination: socialities and materialities of voluntarism'.  Convenors: Tess Altman (University College London); Katerina Rozakou (University of Amsterdam), Discussants: Mary Mostafanezhad (University of Hawaii at Manoa), Roger Norum.

The Floating Laboratory of Action and Theory at Sea (FLOATS) in cooperation with the Summer School "Cultures, Migrations, Borders"& the Department of Social Anthropology and History at the University of the Aegean (Lesvos) are hosting a summer meeting in Lesvos, Greece [13-15 July 2018] that will explore the practices and theories of utopia at sea.

Low-tech Lab - Nomade des Mers Greece, in cooperation with One Happy Family - Community Center, Lesvos is hosting a workshop on how to make low-tech Solar cookers from up-cycled material, which can be used to cook or bake food without any wood or fuel.

To mark World Refugee Day 2018, the Refugee Food Festival comes to 14 cities worldwide, including Mytilene, Athens, Brussels, Madrid, Paris, San Francisco, New York and Cape Town. On 20 June, a special Refugee Food Festival event will be held at Nan restaurant on Lesvos island.
