Conference in honour of Evthymios Papataxiarchis
Mytilini, 17-18 May 2024
The Department of Social Anthropology and History of the University of the Aegean, Greece, organizes a two-day scientific conference in honour of Professor Emeritus Evthymios Papataxiarchis, whose contribution to the founding and the establishment of our Department in Greek academic life has been an important part of the broader influence he has exerted on the systematic consolidation of social anthropology in the field of social sciences and public discourse in Greece.
The event will focus, on the one hand, on some of the central themes that concerned Akis Papataxiarchis during his long academic career, such as "Kinship, gender and domesticity", "Migration and refugees", "The relationship between anthropology and history", "The history of anthropology in Greece and its relation to other social sciences" and, on the other hand, on more general issues concerning the presence and impact of social anthropology in the public, academic and wider, political, publishing, teaching and research spheres.
