On 21st June 2018, the day after World Refugee Day, from 6pm – 8pm (JRS) Jesuit Refugee Service will hold an open meeting at the Panhellenion Coffee House between Ermou and Prokimeia.
JRS is an international Catholic organisation whose mission is to help refugees, displaced people and asylum seekers.
JRS has a programmes in 51 countries, helping people in refugee camps, detention centres and cities. This help extends to people of all faiths and none. Most beneficiaries are not Catholic. JRS is involved in the Education and training for employment in many parts of the world, including Athens.
JRS is also very much concerned with advocacy and human rights.
Tom Smolich SJ, International Director of JRS, will give a short talk, focusing on the need for the global community to adopt a shared response to the global refugee situation, and its application on Lesvos. This will be followed by a question and answer session and discussion.
Local people, representatives of national and international NGOs, a members of the press and refugees themselves are invited to attend. The meeting is expected to finish before 8 o’clock.
